The year 2008 has seen a 3% drop in the car insurance premium rates, but there are hopes of it to rise again this year.

According to Sainsbury’s Car Insurance, a car insurance provider, there has been a 3.1% drop in the car insurance premium rates from June 2008 to December 2008. The average motor insurance premium, during December 2008 was £498.22, as opposed to that in June 2008 which was £514.16.

But, the figures are to positively change for the year 2009 as there has been a rise in the Personal injury claims. The personal injury claims have risen up by 22%, last year, to a total amount of £6 billion.

Joanne Mallon manager of Sainsbury’s car insurance, said, “The average motorist is still looking at around £500 to insure their car.” Thus , increasing demands for comprehensive and cheap insurances. Commenting on the rise in personal injury claim, she said “Premiums could rise as a result of the rising cost of personal injury claims and also repairs.”

Continuing, Ms.Mallon mentioned that around two thirds of the motorists are involved in some form of a potentially hazardous activity while driving like using cell phones or eating, which may result in accidents.

Cash strapped Brits will be pleased to hear that car insurance quotes appear to be falling. Based on research from Sainsbury’s Bank, the average cost of car insurance has dropped by 3.1% over the second half of 2008.

However, despite this drop is the average premium, its still vital that consumers use a car insurance comparison website to search for the lowest car insurance quotes online.

Also it would be very wise to remember that lower car insurance quotes don’t always mean a lower quality of cover, for example it is often the case when using a car insurance comparison website that if you switch to TPFT (thurd party fire and theft) instead of TP (third party) only, the policy is cheaper. Also on occasion, it is cheaper when you select ‘fully comprehensive’ insurance We agree, it doesnt make sense but the calculations that the insurance systems use are so complicated that all kinds of things can tip the balance of a car insurance quote.

If you would like to compare car insurance, visit the supermarket.com car quote page by clicking the ‘get a quote’ button above.

This could be set to rise again during the coming year due to an unexpected riseof 22% in injury claims and the costs that were linked to them.

On average a motorist is looking at approximatley five hundred pounds to insure their vehicle so there has never been more pressure to shop around for a better price. Quotes vary from insurer to insurer but one doesn’t always have to compromise quality of cover to obtain a low cost car insurance quote. Many supermarket insurers can provide both.

Above statistics based on Sainsbury’s car insurance index from June 2008 – December 2008 extracted from an article on easier.com.

This has caused upsets in the insurance world and has forced larger insurers to consider offering similar schemes with only a very few insurers currently implementing this system in association with Coverbox, an internet based insurance brokering company.

The revolutionary system uses GPS to track the vehicles whereabouts and mileage using a ‘black box’ the system can then generate a pay as you go rate based on a number of factors including on or off peak vehicle usage, mileage and other variables.

The new scheme is welcomed by younger and unemployed drivers in the current ecomonic crisis as an affordable way to continue to drive with insurance where it may not have been possible with the traditional method of insurance.
